Cauvery water supply to be disrupted for 3 days in Greater Bengaluru, citizens urged to store sufficient water
Bengaluru residents are bracing for a major water supply disruption as the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has announced a three-day shutdown of Cauvery water supply from September 15 to 17. The disruption, which will affect multiple parts of the city, is being carried out to facilitate critical emergency maintenance work at several pumping stations under the Cauvery Water Supply Project.

BWSSB Chairman Dr. V. Ram Prasath Manohar confirmed that pumping operations at major stations will be suspended to carry out essential repair and maintenance work aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of the city’s drinking water network. According to officials, the maintenance is crucial to ensure that Greater Bengaluru continues to receive uninterrupted water supply in the long term.

When?

As per the official schedule, Cauvery Stage V pumping stations will be completely shut down for 60 hours, starting 1:00 am on September 15 and continuing until 1:00 pm on September 17. In addition, Cauvery Stages I, II, III, and IV (Phase 1 and Phase 2) will also be shut down for 24 hours, beginning 6:00 am on September 16 and concluding at 6:00 am on September 17.

The BWSSB has urged all residents in the affected areas to store adequate water ahead of time and use it judiciously during the shutdown period. Authorities have advised citizens to prepare for a complete halt in supply and plan for drinking, cooking, and other domestic needs in advance.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar recently highlighted the state government’s larger plan to expand Cauvery water distribution to more regions. Speaking at a Janaspandana programme in Kodihalli, he said, “We are planning to pump Cauvery water from near Sangama to 250 villages in Kanakapura taluk. The project to supply Cauvery water to the tanks of the taluk has already been initiated.” He further mentioned that water is also being sourced from Shimsha to Sathanur Hobli and that tanks in Kasaba Hobli and Hosadurga areas are being filled with water from the Arkavathi and Cauvery rivers.

Residents are advised to stay updated through BWSSB notifications and local announcements to know if their area is affected by the shutdown and to make the necessary arrangements to minimize inconvenience during these three days.
