Bengaluru: Three arrested for gang-rape of 19-year-old, obscene video used for blackmail

Two college students and an electrician have been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly gang-raping a 19-year-old student and blackmailing her using an obscene video recorded without her consent, a TOI report stated. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody at Ramanagara district prison.

The arrested men have been identified as G Vikas, 20, a student of Allied Health Sciences; N Prashant, 20, a Bachelor of Commerce student; and Chetan J, 26, an electrician. All three are residents of Magadi town. Police said the arrests followed a complaint filed by the survivor, who studies at a private college in Bengaluru.

Arrests and investigation

According to police, Vikas befriended the survivor through social media around six months ago. He allegedly took her to Chetan’s vacant house in Magadi, where he secretly recorded their private moments. The videos were allegedly shared with Prashant and Chetan, who then used them to blackmail the survivor and coerce her into repeated sexual acts, as reported by TOI.


Vikas and Prashant study at different private colleges on the outskirts of Bengaluru and commute daily from Magadi, police said.

A police officer told TOI, “We immediately arrested the accused. Their mobile phones have been sent to the forensic science laboratory to retrieve deleted videos.”

A senior official urged victims of sexual exploitation to report such crimes, saying, “Silence only emboldens offenders. Reporting such crimes at the earliest helps prevent further abuse and ensures accountability.”
