In a shocking event, a 29-year-old homemaker allegedly strangled her two young daughters before taking her own life at their residence in north Bengaluru on Sunday afternoon. Later in the evening, her husband, upon discovering their bodies, is reported to have hanged himself, a TOI report stated.

The deceased have been identified as Avinash, a cab driver, his wife Mamatha, and their daughters Anaya (2) and Adhira (4). Originally from Kalaburagi district, the couple had been residing in Bengaluru for the past six years.

Marital Dispute Suspected

Authorities suspect that a marital dispute might have driven Mamatha to commit the act. Avinash, distressed by the sight of his family, is believed to have taken his own life. The tragedy unfolded in Yeddyurappa Nagar, Singanayakanahalli, near Yelahanka. The bodies were discovered on Monday morning at around 9:30 AM by Avinash’s younger brother, Udhay Kumar, a physical education trainer. Udhay, who also lived with the family, had returned from Kalaburagi only that morning.

Investigation Underway

Police have registered a case of murder against Mamatha concerning the deaths of the children and an unnatural death case for both Mamatha and Avinash. Superintendent of Police CK Baba commented, “The exact cause of the children’s death will be known after getting the postmortem report. Avinash was at work from morning till night. A detailed investigation will be conducted.”

Financial Pressure Mentioned by Family

Dattu Rathore, Avinash’s cousin, stated there was no indication of issues in the couple’s marriage. He mentioned that Avinash had recently sought financial help from his uncle to pay off a credit card bill, leading the family to suspect that financial pressures may have played a role in the tragedy. "We suspect someone put pressure on him to pay the bill," Rathore added.
