The man, identified as S Madan from Banasawadi, was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
According to the news outlet, Madan, who lives with his parents and younger sister, is unemployed and reportedly suffers from anxiety and depression, according to police sources. His family informed investigators that he had quit his private sector job after being diagnosed with mental health issues.
Victims recount disturbing encounter
One of the victims, a 41-year-old woman, told police she was at Milton Park with her child and a friend when a stranger confronted her."We were walking inside the park while my child was playing. Suddenly, a stranger appeared and blocked my way. His stares told me all was not well, and I sneaked behind a tree. But he followed and said, ‘Come, I am single... hug me', then he kissed me," she said in her complaint. Alarmed, she fled towards a more crowded area for safety.
Minutes later, the same man allegedly approached another woman, aged 28, on nearby Milton Street and repeated the assault, noted the TOI report.
“Shocked, I screamed and ran to a safe place where more people were present," the victim narrated in her complaint, adding the stranger repeated the act after attacking another woman who was walking on Milton Street. The distance was around 100 metres between the two places," she added.
The first victim's husband was called to the scene, and a call was made to emergency services. Two police patrol units responded promptly, and a formal complaint was filed at the Pulakeshinagar police station.
CCTV footage leads police to suspect
Officers reviewed CCTV footage to trace the suspect’s movements, which revealed that Madan had arrived in the area by BMTC bus and used public transport to leave as well. This helped authorities locate and arrest him at his residence in Banasawadi.“Madan was aggressive and uncooperative during questioning. He shouted at officers and even tried to assault staff while in custody,” a senior official told TOI.
Madan now faces charges related to sexual assault and criminal intimidation. Police are continuing their investigation.
