Bengaluru and surrounding districts were hit by heavy rain on Saturday evening, leading to flooding in several low-lying areas. As of 10 PM on Saturday, Basaveshwaranagar recorded the highest rainfall in the city, receiving 109.5 mm. Other areas, including Nagapura and Hampi Nagar, saw rainfall amounts of 104 mm and 102 mm, respectively. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather station in central Bengaluru reported around 22 mm of rainfall during the day.

The heavy downpour resulted in water entering an old-age home in Basaveshwaranagar, causing inconvenience to more than 15 residents. In Binnypet, a compound wall collapsed, damaging around 10 parked bikes, and resulting in drain water flooding the area.

The inundation affected residents in over a thousand apartments at Kendriya Vihar in Yelahanka, prompting authorities to initiate rescue operations before the water receded. Additionally, several homes in the low-lying areas of Attur were also impacted, and the newly inaugurated Palike Bazar in Vijayanagar faced flooding due to the intense showers.

Traffic movement was significantly disrupted as waterlogged roads hindered transit across various parts of the city. The IMD forecasts further thundershowers in Bengaluru and parts of south interior Karnataka until October 9, along with warnings for heavy rain, thunder, and lightning during this period.

Coastal and Malnad districts are also expected to experience heavy rainfall until October 8, after which a decrease in rainfall is anticipated.

Residents are urged to remain cautious as weather conditions are expected to persist in the coming days.
