Bengaluru has become the second city in India to have a 90-metre ladder platform for fire rescue operations. Mumbai was the first city to have the facility.

Dedicated to the city Fire Department by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the 90-metre aerial ladder platform system has been termed the department's "biggest strength" and an essential facility that will work as a "real friend in need" by the Chief Minister.

"The capacity and capability to save lives of people in fire mishaps and to check fire accidents have increased...in the whole country, except Mumbai, only Bengaluru has a 90 metre aerial ladder platform to rescue people who are stuck in high-rise buildings during the fire mishaps," Bommai added.

Efforts have been on for the past two-and-a-half years to procure the ladder, according to an official release. The document also went on to add that the COVID-19 pandemic and production issues delayed the implementation of the equipment.

The new ladder will be put to use in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.
