A taxi driver was arrested after he allegedly attempted to attack two other drivers with a knife near the VVIP pick-up point at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 1 in the early hours of Monday, following what police described as a dispute over business. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said its personnel intervened in time to prevent further escalation.

According to CISF, an assistant sub-inspector intercepted the driver, identified as Suhail Ahmed Pyarejaan, 36, while he was chasing the two men, Jagdish JR and Renu Kumar. CISF stated that all three individuals, along with the weapon, were handed over to the KIA police on Monday.

The CISF shared a video of the incident on social media platform X and said that “with the timely intervention by CISF, a major crime was averted at Bengaluru Airport.” A CISF official said, “Around midnight, Suhail was seen running towards Jagdish and Renu with a knife near the Terminal 1 arrival lane. ASI Sunil Kumar, along with two on-duty CISF personnel, swiftly intervened, overpowered him, and secured the weapon without allowing any harm to anyone.”

CISF added that the accused and all involved were “immediately handed over to KIA police for further action” and noted that “a preliminary inquiry suggests that his act was in retaliation to an earlier dispute.” The force said it remains committed to safeguarding passengers, airport staff and aviation infrastructure.

Police said preliminary investigation showed that Suhail knew Jagdish and Renu. Suhail allegedly told investigators that earlier that night, Jagdish and two others had assaulted him, and he returned with a knife in retaliation.
