Bangalore, India’s prominent tech hub, is receiving criticism for its deteriorating infrastructure, with comparisons being drawn to Ahmedabad, which is seen as a model for urban development. Siddharth Dialani, the Founder and CEO of BharatAgri, has voiced his concerns about the state of the city, highlighting the significant gap in infrastructure quality between the two cities.

“Ahmedabad is at least 10 years ahead of Bangalore,” said Dialani, emphasizing disparities in road quality, footpaths, traffic signals, and overall upkeep. His remarks have sparked renewed debates about Bangalore’s crumbling infrastructure.

Ahmedabad’s urban planning sets a benchmark

Dialani cited Ahmedabad’s traffic signals as a standout feature. “Every traffic signal in Ahmedabad has a working timer with bright lights,” he noted, explaining how this reduces driver anxiety and promotes orderly behavior. Bangalore’s signals, on the other hand, are often obscured by layers of dust and neglect, leaving drivers frustrated.

Road conditions also tell a starkly different story. “Roads in Ahmedabad are wide and well-maintained, with lane markings that look freshly painted. I couldn’t find any potholes there,” Dialani stated. In contrast, Bangalore’s pothole-ridden streets remain a long-standing complaint among residents.

A tale of two cities after dark

Lighting was another key difference highlighted by Dialani. Ahmedabad’s streets are well-lit, creating a vibrant nighttime atmosphere. “The city looks bright and happening at night,” he observed, adding that the well-lit streets uplift the mood of its residents. Bangalore’s poorly lit roads, however, paint a gloomier picture. “Is that why people seem sad and angry in Bangalore?” he mused.

Questions raised over Bangalore’s priorities

The stark contrasts outlined by Dialani have raised concerns about Bangalore’s urban priorities. While Ahmedabad appears to excel in basic infrastructure and urban planning, Bangalore’s challenges reflect the need for immediate attention to its roads, traffic management, and public spaces.
