TVS enters PE business with TVS Capital Funds

TVS Group has ventured into private equity business by launching a new firm, TVS Capital Funds.

CHENNAI: TVS Group has ventured into private equity business by launching a new firm, TVS Capital Funds. Founded by Gopal Srinivasan of the TVS Group, the firm would make equity investments in growth to late-stage private companies and in mid-cap, family-owned businesses across sectors in India.

It has brought in Suresh Raju as general partner from Deutsche Bank’s technology investment banking practice in Boston, USA, to help launch the activities of the firm.

Mr Raju, who holds a B Tech from IIT Chennai, an MS from Ohio State University and an MBA from University of Chicago, brings over six years of investment banking and four years of operational experience.

Mr Raju said the fund would primarily invest in privately held, high-growth companies, but did not disclose the targeted size of the fund.

In the next few weeks, it would file its applications as a venture-capital fund with SEBI, and subsequently go for road shows. “Given the anchor investment from TVS Group and given its brandname, raising funds is not an issue,” Raju said.
