Cafemutual presents game changer awards

Cafemutual Confluence 2018 marked the 25th anniversary of private sector mutual funds by presenting game changer awards to a host of luminaries from the mutual fund industry.

The winners included Vivek Reddy, CEO of first private sector mutual fund (Kothari Pioneer Mutual Fund), Prashant Jain, ED and CIO, HDFC Mutual Fund, Dhirendra Kumar, CEO of mutual fund tracking firm Value Research, NS Venkatesh, chief of Amfi, among others.

Vivek Reddy said in his acceptance speech that it feels great to know that you were a part of the industry that has grown so big. “The industry should feel great about the fact that we have made a place in the world for ourselves as an industry.” He also said that the industry needs to give 90 per cent of the benefits to the investors. “That should be the goal.”


Prashant Jain shared an interesting episode from his first job: I joined SBI Mutual Fund and I was a month late and the boss told me we don’t have anything to offer apart from equity research. “That’s what I have been doing since,” he said.

Remembering his association with the mutual fund industry, Dhirendra Kumar said he started his business after completing graduation in 1990 from his home and moved to a shop in a DDA market. “Now we have a big office in Delhi. I don’t how many words I have written in how many columns in the last 30 years.”

“The ‘mutual fund Sahi hai’ campaign was started by the IFAs years ago. It was simply supplemented with a great media campaign by Amfi. This is the job that we have been doing for years,” said Sadashiv Phene, IFA, and a winner of game changer award.
