B30 locations continues to be inclined towards equity mutual funds: ICRA Analytics

Around 18% of the assets of the mutual fund industry came from B30 locations in July 2025. Assets from these locations increased from Rs 13.80 trillion in June 2025 to Rs 14.20 trillion in July 2025, representing a 3% rise, according to AMFI data.

On a yearly basis, assets from B30 locations rose by 21%, from Rs 11.77 trillion. Assets from T30 locations grew 19% year-on-year in July 2025.

B30 locations tend to favor equity assets, with nearly 76.55% invested in equity schemes and 9.18% in balanced schemes in July 2025. Around 11.82% of assets from B30 locations were in debt-oriented schemes, compared with 31.47% from T30 locations.

Only 0.29% of B30 assets were invested in FoF – overseas, while it was 0.40% in T30 cities. About 49.59% was invested in equity mutual funds in B30 cities, 4.40% in balanced schemes, and 14.15% in ETFs.
In July 2025, 27.45% of assets held by individual investors were from B30 locations, while only 4.79% of institutional assets came from B30 locations. In July 2024, 26.76% of assets were held by individual investors from B30 locations, and 4.76% by institutions. Institutional assets are concentrated in T30 locations, accounting for 95.21% of the total.

As of July 2025, approximately 26.92% of retail investors opted for direct investments, 65.69% came through Non-Associate Distributors, and 7.39% through Associate Distributors.

Nearly 28.61% of High Net Worth Individual (HNI) assets were invested directly. Overall, 47.77% of the mutual fund industry's assets were invested directly, while 45.88% came through Non-Associate Distributors.
