Year-ender 2024: Mutual funds raise over Rs 1 lakh crore via 205 NFOs; sectoral and index funds top contributors

Around 205 mutual fund NFOs were floated in the market in 2024 which together collected Rs 1.04 lakh crore. Around 198 open-ended funds collected Rs 1.03 lakh crore whereas seven fixed term plans which are close-ended funds collected Rs 954 crore in the said period.

In 2024, the highest number of funds launched were in the index fund category. Around 76 index funds were launched in the said period which together collected Rs 11,896 crore in 2024. According to the monthly data released by Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), in 2024 till November (last available data) index funds were launched in every month with highest being in October. Around 17 index funds were launched in October.
The next category to witness maximum launches was Other - ETFs. In 2024, around 41 other - ETFs were launched which together collected Rs 1,438 crore.
The sectoral and thematic mutual funds contributed the maximum. Around 40 sectoral and thematic funds were launched in 2024 which together collected Rs 67,772 crore.
Eight multi asset allocation funds contributed Rs 7,435 crore in 2024. Five multi cap funds collected Rs 6,326 crore, followed by four large & mid cap funds which contributed Rs 1,833 crore.
Three new funds each were launched in three categories - Gold ETFs, Dynamic Asset Allocation/ Balanced Advantage Fund, and Arbitrage funds. Three gold ETFs collected Rs 70 crore, Dynamic Asset Allocation/ Balanced Advantage Fund collected Rs 1,598 crore, and arbitrage funds collected Rs 188 crore.
During the year, two large cap funds were launched in the market. Motilal Oswal Large Cap Fund which was floated in the market in February collected Rs 589 crore. Bajaj Finserv Large Cap Fund floated in the market in August mobilised Rs 865 crore.
Two long duration funds and retirement funds collected Rs 109 crore and Rs 307 crore respectively in 2024. Two small cap funds - JM Small Cap Fund and TRUSTMF Small Cap Fund - collected Rs 345 crore and Rs 358 crore respectively in 2024.
Seven categories witnessed the launch of one NFO each in the mentioned period. Old Bridge Focused Equity Fund, the only focused fund launched in 2024, mobilised Rs 110 crore. DSP US Treasury Fund of Fund , the only fund of funds investing overseas launched in 2024, contributed Rs 48 crore.

Franklin India Medium to Long Duration Fund and Baroda BNP Paribas Dividend Yield Fund, both floated in the market in September, collected Rs 72 crore and Rs 1,006 crore respectively in 2024. Shriram Liquid Fund, the only liquid fund launched in 2024, contributed Rs 269 crore.
