I have just started investing in SIP. My goal is to earn a large amount after five years. I am investing Rs 10,000 per month on the following schemes:
L&T Midcap Fund (G): Rs 1,500
L&T Emerging Businesses Fund (G): Rs 2,000
Mirae Asset Emerging Bluechip Fund (G): Rs 1,000
HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities Fund (G): Rs 2,500
Reliance Small Cap Fund: Rs 2,000
Canara Robeco Emerging Equities Fund (G) : Rs 1,000.
Can you please advise if this is a good portfolio?

Puneet Oberoi, Founder, Excellent Investment Advisors, responds:

All these schemes you are investing in are performing well for now. It seems, you have invested largely in midcap and smallcap funds. Since your portfolio is not a long-term one, you should be diversify it by investing in largecap funds also.

You have spread your portfolio in similar kind of funds. If you plan to reduce the risk element in your portfolio, you should do for multiple schemes that invests in different kind of stocks.

I would say dilute your portfolio into two good midcap and largecap funds. Here are my recommendations.
  1. Mirae Asset Emerging Bluechip Fund
  2. Franklin India Smaller Companies Fund
  3. ICICI Prudential Focused Bluechip Equity Fund
