I have invested a lumpsum of Rs 24,000 in Canara Robeco Emerging Equities Fund Direct-Growth and doing a SIP of Rs 500 in SBI Small Cap Fund Direct-Growth. My risk profile is moderate. Can I expect to get satisfactory returns in 10 years? What average returns can I expect? Do you have any other suggestions for me? Currently, I am 20 years old.

Jitendra Solanki, Founder, JS Financial Advisors, responds:

Since you have mentioned your risk profile as moderate an equity-oriented hybrid fund would have been more appropriate choice. Even though small cap funds deliver higher returns they are also highly volatile and you may see more downside than other categories which may deter you if you are not prepared for it. Hybrid equity funds have a mix of equity and debt which helps you in keeping the downside protected. You may look at ICICI Prudential Equity and Debt Fund for your objective.
