I had invested in UTI Mid Cap Fund via SIP for almost three years. I stopped the SIP as the returns were not up to the mark. Should I take out the money? If I redeem my investment, I will only get the amount I had invested. Please advise.

Raghvendra Nath, MD, Ladderup Wealth Management, responds:

It is important to remember that SIP investments are for the long term and shouldn’t be discontinued as they help to counter market volatility.

If you look at the last two-three years in isolation, you would observe that the broader markets were not performing performed well. The broader markets have started performing only in the last six months after the reduction in corporate taxes.

Your fund, UTI Mid Cap Fund, has performed decently and has given good returns, compared to the mid cap index. I would ask you to stay invested. However, if you are looking to switch to another mid cap fund, you can consider investing in the Kotak Emerging Equity Fund. It has performed well during this period.
