I have invested Rs 8,70,000 in Aditya Birla Sun Life Balanced Fund growth option. But this investment has given me very poor returns after an year. The approximate value comes out to be Rs 8,84,000. Should I continue with the fund or move out of it?

Puneet Oberoi, Founder, Excellent Investment Advisors, responds:

What I understand from your query is that you have invested a year back , this query is the most common query with people who have invested a year back , the reason is that any funds invested after july 2017 are either negative or positive with very low returns , you should be thankful that the fund you have invested is a balanced category fund and that’s why its at least positive . When you are investing into equities you cant compare it with a fixed income funds like fixed deposits or bank interest , as equities can be volatile in first few years , but as you have taken a balanced fund it’s a much safer funds , so please continue it if you have a long term horizon , if it’s a very short horizon then better park in some fixed income fund like debt funds .
