I would like to invest a lump sum amount for my child’s future. My investment time will be above 20 years. I have shortlisted HDFC Children's Gift Fund. Kindly suggest is this a good plan or is there any other plan.

Shifali Satsangee, Founder, Funds Ve'daa, a mutual fund advisory firm, based in Agra responds:

Your choice of investing into HDFC Children's Gift Fund for your child’s future is very apt. For goal based investing for your child's future -be it education, marriage etc. HDFC CGF, an open ended solution oriented scheme is an ideal choice. It is a sacrosanct scheme for the child.

It has a stellar proven track record of a little over two decades, with one of the finest fund managers of the industry, Chirag Setalvad ,managing the scheme.

There is a healthy allocation towards equities, which is an ideal long term asset class coupled with debt allocation which provides stable returns. Also, there is a risk cover given to the guardian, in the form of a personal accident insurance cover up to Rs 10 lakh. Donor contribution is also possible in this scheme.
