I am new to mutual funds. I have been investing through SIPs in SBI Bluechip Fund (Rs 5,000), and Rs 2,500 in Kotak Standard Multicap Fund. Are these two funds good?

Deepali Sen, Founder, Srujan Financial Advisors, responds:

You are investing in good mutual fund schemes. As you are new to mutual funds, keep these things in mind: first, continue with your SIPs, irrespective of the ups and downs in the market. Second, stay invested in these schemes for at least seven years. Third, returns can be asymmetrical. And fourth, these investments can be volatile, and you must hold on to your investments to create wealth over a long period.

You must invest as per your financial goals. If your long-term goal requires more money to be invested, then do not hesitate. You can take help of a mutual fund advisor to calculate the monthly investment amount needed. It is important to invest for at least seven years in equity mutual funds to get decent returns.
