The number of SIPs discontinued/ tenure completed in September were recorded at 44.03 lakh whereas the number of new SIPs registered in the same period increased to 57.73 lakh. On the other hand, the number of SIPs discontinued/tenure completed in August was recorded at 41.15 lakh and the number of new SIPs registered was 55.23 lakh.

“After months of euphoric flows, investors now seem to be taking a breather, booking partial profits and adopting a more measured approach. Yet, the underlying retail conviction remains unshaken — SIP contributions surged to an all-time high of Rs 29,361 crore, reaffirming the growing culture of disciplined, goal-based investing across India’s retail base,” said Nikunj Saraf, CEO, Choice Wealth.
In September, the total number of outstanding SIP accounts were recorded at 972.74 lakh. The number of contributing SIP accounts were recorded at 925.21 lakh. The SIP contribution was recorded at Rs 29,361 crore against Rs 28,265 crore in August indicating a surge of 4% on monthly basis.
What is the SIP stoppage ratio?
The SIP stoppage ratio is the number of discontinued SIPs compared to the number of new registered SIPs. If this ratio crosses 100% then it indicates that more mutual fund SIPs are being stopped than the ones started.
However, one must keep in mind that stoppage ratio also includes those SIPs that have expired. Besides, investors may have simply switched from one SIP to another as part of their portfolio reshuffle.
The retail mutual fund folios (Equity + Hybrid + Solution Oriented Schemes) are at 19,80,54,156 for the month of September 2025 as against 19,64,01,310 August 2025. The retail AUM (Equity + Hybrid + Solution Oriented Schemes) stood at Rs 44,61,239 crores for September 2025 .
Mutual Fund Folios are at 25,19,23,162 as of September 2025 with 30,13,738 folios being added during the month. Folios as of August 2025 stood at 24,89,09,424
