I am planning to invest a part of my father's retirement corpus (Rs 15-20 lakh) in equity funds. I have a long-term horizon of more than seven years, with an expectancy of multiplying the amount by five or six times. How much time would it approximately take for the money to reach at that level? Please suggest suitable funds.

Deepesh Mehta, a Certified Financial Planner, responds:

Since the amount of investment is large and it is a retirement corpus, consult an experienced financial advisor who can guide your father. You need to check the risk profile of your father and make him understand the swings in equity markets.

Your investment horizon is good but keep a reasonable expectation from the equity markets. Seek a financial advisor’s help for fund selection.
