I am currently working in Oman. I want to invest in mutual funds. I plan to invest either in Bank Muscat Oryx Fund or in Bank Muscat fund. I don't know which one to choose. Should I invest here or in India? And in which funds? I would need the money in three to four years. Also, how to invest in India from Oman?

Puneet Oberoi, CFP, Director, Excellent Investment Advisroz, responds:

I am not aware about Muscat Funds. But you can surely invest in India if you are a person of Indian origin or an NRI. India’s GDP is growing above 5 per cent and it is likely to grow because of consumption and the largest working population in the world.

Now you need to understand that three to four years is not the right horizon to invest in equity mutual funds. So, I would recommend debt-oriented mutual funds or hybrid funds to you for your short-term goals.

Since you have not mentioned your goals and risk profile, it would be difficult to recommend any schemes to you.
