I am 28 years old and I have a long investment horizon. I have recently started a monthly SIP of Rs 5,000 in L&T Emerging Businesses Fund, which is a smallcap scheme. I don't mind taking risk since I am investing for a long term. However, I also want to start another SIP of Rs 5,000 in a multicap or a largecap scheme to diversify my mutual fund portfolio and earn good returns. I like Tata India Consumer Fund, which is a thematic scheme riding on India's consumption story. I believe India's consumption story is here to grow. Should I invest in this scheme? How much more should I invest to achieve Rs 2 crore in the next 15 years?

-- Monish Shah

Pramod Sharma, partner, Citrine Financial Advisors LLP, responds:

Consumption sector is doing good. But thematic or sectoral schemes are highly risky. I would suggest that one should invest only up to 10 per cent of the total portfolio in a thematic/sectoral scheme.

You can consider investing Rs 5,000 per month in Kotak Standard Multicap Fund.

Assuming an annual return of 12 per cent, you need to invest Rs 39,600 per month to create Rs 2 crore in 15 years. You have to increase your investments by Rs 34,500 per month to achieve your goal.
