I am 28 years old and employed in a private firm. I have no exposure to mutual funds but I want to start a monthly SIP (systematic investment plan). I can invest around Rs 12,000 per month, but I am unable to select the right funds. I want to accumulate Rs 6 crore in the next 22 years. Will I be able to achieve my target through a monthly SIP of Rs 12,000?

Shifali Satsangee, Founder, Funds Ve'daa, responds:

Assuming a rate of return of 10%, your accumulated corpus at the end of 22 years would be approximately 6 crore, if you start your SIP with Rs12,000 and step up your SIP by Rs 8,000 annually. If we assume a 12% rate of return, you can start with an amount of Rs 12,000 and top it up by Rs 6,000 annually to achieve your goal.

You could start with building your core portfolio which can include:
PPFAS Flexicap Fund: Rs 5,000
Axis Growth Opportunities Fund: Rs 5,000
Mirae Emerging Bluechip Fund: Rs 2,000

You could build on your Satellite portfolio as you step up your SIPs and include a Mid cap fund and small cap fund(depending on your risk profile) and take some international exposure as well.
