20 equity mutual funds offer over 20% XIRR on SIP investments in 5 years. Do you own any?

Around 20 equity mutual funds have offered over 20% XIRR on SIP investments made five years ago, an analysis by ETMutual Funds showed. There were 208 equity mutual funds in the said time period, of which 203 gave double-digit returns and five gave single-digit returns.

The top two performers were mid-cap funds. Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund and Invesco India Midcap Fund delivered an XIRR of 24.68% and 23.84% respectively in the last five years. A monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 in these funds would have been Rs 10.89 lakh and Rs 10.68 lakh respectively.

Bandhan Small Cap Fund offered an XIRR of 23.56% in the last five years, followed by three mid-cap funds. HDFC Mid Cap Fund, Edelweiss Mid Cap Fund, and Nippon India Growth Mid Cap Fund offered an XIRR of 23.31%, 22.32%, and 21.76% respectively in the said time period.

HDFC Flexi Cap Fund, the second-largest flexi-cap fund based on assets managed, delivered an XIRR of 21.38% in the mentioned time period. Sundaram Mid Cap Fund delivered an XIRR of 21.21% in the last five years.

SBI ELSS Tax Saver Fund, the oldest ELSS fund, offered an XIRR of 20.39% in the last five years. A monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 in this fund would have been Rs 9.84 lakh in the last five years.

Two funds from ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund — ICICI Pru Large & Mid Cap Fund and ICICI Pru Midcap Fund — delivered an XIRR of 20.34% and 20.20% respectively in the mentioned time frame.

HDFC ELSS Tax Saver, an ELSS fund, was the last one in the list to deliver over 20% XIRR. The fund gave an XIRR of 20.18% in the last five years.

Other funds

Two funds from HSBC Mutual Fund — HSBC Value Fund and HSBC Midcap Fund — offered an XIRR of 19.97% and 19.68% respectively in the last five years. Two prominent small caps — Quant Small Cap Fund and Nippon India Small Cap Fund — gave an XIRR of 19.56% and 19.40% respectively in the last five years.

SBI Contra Fund, the oldest and largest contra fund, delivered an XIRR of 19.29% in the said time period. Two funds from HDFC Mutual Fund — HDFC Small Cap Fund and HDFC Large and Mid Cap Fund — delivered an XIRR of 18.48% and 18.40% respectively in the mentioned time frame.

Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund, the largest active flexi-cap fund based on assets managed, delivered an XIRR of 17.96% in the said time period.

Two focused funds — Union Focused Fund and LIC MF Focused Fund — were the last ones to deliver double-digit XIRR in the last five years. The funds gave 10.33% and 10.18% respectively.

UTI Flexi Cap Fund gave an XIRR of 9.44% on SIP investments in the last five years, followed by two funds from Shriram Mutual Fund. Shriram Flexi Cap Fund and Shriram ELSS Tax Saver Fund offered an XIRR of 9.28% and 9.23% respectively in the said time frame.

Axis Focused Fund and Motilal Oswal Focused Fund gave 8.89% and 7.68% XIRR respectively in the said time period.
