2 ELSS mutual funds turned Rs 1 lk lumpsum investment to over Rs 1 cr in 25 years

Two ELSS or tax-saving mutual funds have turned a lumpsum investment of Rs 1 lakh to more than Rs 1 crore in the last 25 years. Around seven ELSS funds have completed 25 years of existence in the market.

HDFC ELSS Tax saver turned the Rs 1 lakh lumpsum investment to Rs 1.05 crore in the last 25 years. The scheme offered 20.45% CAGR in the same period. Franklin India ELSS Tax Saver Fund turned Rs 1 lakh lumpsum investment to Rs 1 crore in the mentioned period. This scheme delivered 20.22% CAGR in the same period.

The other five schemes that have completed 25 years in the market turned the same lumpsum investment between Rs 10.54 lakh and Rs 64.28 lakh. These schemes gave CAGR between 9.87% and 18.11% in the mentioned period.

SBI Long Term Equity Fund, the oldest ELSS fund, turned the Rs 1 lakh to Rs 51.39 lakh in the last 25 years with a CAGR of 17.06%

Sundaram ELSS Tax Saver Fund turned the same lumpsum investment to Rs 42.97 lakh with a CAGR of 16.22%.

Tax saving or ELSS schemes are recommended to investors who are looking to save taxes under Section 80C of the income tax Act. Investors can invest a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh in these schemes and claim tax deductions on it in a financial year. ELSS funds come with a lock-in period of three years.
