smallcase launches US stock, global ETF portfolios for Indian investors

Investment platform smallcase has launched curated portfolios of US-listed stocks and global exchange-traded funds, widening its overseas investment offerings for Indian investors.

The launch builds on the company’s rollout of direct US equity investing earlier this year. The new US Equity smallcases will allow investors to put money into professionally managed portfolios based on long-term strategies, sectors and investment themes.

Fractional investing will enable users to access the portfolios with investments starting at $50, without having to purchase whole shares. The platform will also offer features such as portfolio tracking and automatic rebalancing.


The offering uses smallcase’s portfolio-investing infrastructure and operates under the International Financial Services Centres Authority’s Global Access Provider framework. US broking services will be provided through an IFSCA-registered Global Access Provider at GIFT City.

Fund transfers will be facilitated by an IFSCA-registered payment service provider under the Reserve Bank of India’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme, the company said.

“While access to global markets has become easier, deciding where to invest remains a much bigger challenge for Indian investors because the information gap is significantly larger than it is in domestic markets,” smallcase founder and chief executive Vasanth Kamath said.

The curated portfolios aim to bridge this information gap by combining professional portfolio management with fractional investing and automatic rebalancing, he added.

The platform will feature existing smallcase managers expanding into international investments, along with new portfolio managers specialising in US equities.

Investors who want to research and buy individual US stocks and ETFs can continue to do so through Tickertape, a stock-analysis platform owned by the smallcase group. Those seeking professionally constructed portfolios can invest through the smallcase app.

Both services will be accessible through a unified investment account, allowing investors to choose between individual securities and managed US equity portfolios.

Founded in 2016, smallcase offers investment products and technology platforms focused on listed stocks, ETFs and real estate investment trusts. Its offerings have served more than 10 million individual investors, while its technology is used by over 250 financial institutions, according to the company.
