Walmart is set to replace AstraZeneca in the Nasdaq-100 Index on January 20, marking its move from the New York Stock Exchange.
Walmart is set to replace British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in the Nasdaq-100 Index on January 20, as per an announcement made by Nasdaq on Friday. This change follows Walmart’s earlier decision to transfer its longstanding listing from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to the Nasdaq.

The retail giant had disclosed in November 2025 its intention to shift to Nasdaq, a move seen in line with broader corporate strategies aimed at aligning with investor preferences and optimising listing-related costs.

Walmart will officially join the Nasdaq-100 Index, the Nasdaq-100 Equal Weighted Index, and the Nasdaq-100 Ex-Tech Sector Index before the U.S. market opens on January 20, the exchange said in a statement.

The Nasdaq-100 Index includes 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange, featuring prominent names such as Nvidia and Apple. Companies that switched their listing venue from NYSE to Nasdaq in 2025 reportedly cited the attractiveness of this index as a major driver for the move.

Switching listing venues is typically driven by several considerations, including greater access to a tech-savvy investor base, advanced trading technologies, and potential cost efficiencies associated with compliance and listing requirements.

Walmart, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, is one of the world's largest retailers. It operates a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores across the United States and several other countries.

The Nasdaq-100 Index tracks the performance of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq stock market. It is a key benchmark for technology-heavy stocks and is widely followed by institutional and retail investors.
