President Trump voiced strong backing for Federal Reserve nominee Kevin Warsh, anticipating a focus on lowering interest rates to boost the economy.
President Donald Trump expressed confidence in his nominee for the next Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, while noting that it would be inappropriate to question him directly on potential interest rate cuts. Trump indicated that he believes Warsh is inclined to lower borrowing costs, aligning with the administration’s economic priorities, Reuters said in a report.

The president also downplayed concerns about the Senate confirmation process, despite Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina signalling he might block any Federal Reserve nominee until an ongoing Justice Department inquiry into current Fed Chair Jerome Powell is fully resolved. Tillis, who is not seeking re-election in 2026, serves on the Senate Banking Committee, which oversees Fed confirmations.

With the committee holding a narrow 13-11 Republican majority, the opposition of even a single member could delay the nomination from reaching the full Senate, where Republicans maintain only a slim three-vote advantage, Reuters reported.

Trump emphasised the importance of maintaining the integrity of the process and suggested that Warsh is expected to follow a policy approach consistent with reducing interest rates, reflecting the administration’s broader economic objectives.
