The KOSPI rose as much as 1.54% to 9,000.68, its highest level on record, as chipmaker heavyweights Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix gained more than 2% and 5%, respectively.
The index, which has emerged as the world's best performer in an AI-driven rally, has risen 114% so far this year, after rising 76% last year.
