South Korea's KOSPI stock benchmark hit the 9,000 milestone on Thursday for ‌the ⁠first ⁠time as chipmakers rallied on AI optimism.

The KOSPI rose as much as 1.54% to ⁠9,000.68, its highest ‌level on record, as ⁠chipmaker heavyweights Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix gained more than 2% and 5%, respectively.

The index, which has emerged ‌as the world's best performer in an AI-driven ⁠rally, has risen 114% so far this year, after rising 76% last year.
