Global Market: London Stock Exchange to roll out overnight trading exchange LSE 24 in 2027
The London Stock Exchange (LSE) on Tuesday announced plans to launch LSE 24, a new night-time trading site, in the first half of 2027, as exchanges worldwide expand trading hours to meet growing demand for around-the-clock market access, Reuters reported.

The new exchange will operate separately from the LSE's main market and will initially offer trading in exchange-traded products (ETPs), including funds that track the UK and U.S. stock markets, according to Reuters.

The exchange said the new platform is designed to provide global investors with greater flexibility to react to market developments, access liquidity across different time zones and manage investment risks more efficiently, Reuters reported.

Under the proposed schedule, LSE 24 will operate from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time, with a 30-minute pause between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to complete end-of-day processes. The main London Stock Exchange will continue to function during its regular trading hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Exchanges expand trading hours

The move comes as traditional exchanges face increasing competition from cryptocurrencies and other digital assets that trade continuously, raising investor expectations—particularly among retail traders—for markets that remain open beyond conventional business hours.

Several global exchange operators have already announced similar initiatives. Nasdaq is planning to extend trading to 23 hours on weekdays beginning in December, while CME Group introduced 24x7 trading for cryptocurrency futures and options in late May. Cboe Global Markets also plans to launch 23x5 trading for U.S. equities on its EDGX Equities Exchange in December.

The launch of LSE 24 marks the latest effort by a major exchange to adapt to evolving investor preferences and the growing demand for extended trading access across global financial markets.
