Eurozone investor confidence hits a four-year high as recovery hopes strengthen.

Investor sentiment in the euro zone strengthened sharply in September, reaching its highest level in more than four years as expectations for an economic recovery improved and assessments of current conditions shifted, Reuters reported.

The Sentix index for the euro zone climbed to 5.1 points in September from 0.9 points in August, significantly exceeding the 2.0-point reading expected by analysts polled by Reuters.

The index has now risen for five consecutive months, reaching its highest level since February 2022. The latest increase points to growing confidence among investors that the euro zone economy could be entering a stronger phase of recovery.

According to Sentix, the improvement was driven by a significant recovery in both investors' assessment of current economic conditions and their expectations for the months ahead.

The current situation subindex rose to -3.3 points in September from -8.0 points in August. Meanwhile, the expectations component increased by 3.5 points to 13.8 points, highlighting stronger optimism about future economic activity.

Germany, Europe's largest economy, also showed a notable improvement. Sentix's headline index for Germany rose to -2.8 points in September from -11.9 points in August, marking its fourth consecutive monthly increase and its highest reading since July 2025.

Sentix said Germany's improving performance was making a significant contribution to the broader euro zone sentiment recovery, reversing some of the weakness that had weighed on the region in previous months.

The survey was conducted among 1,052 investors, including 209 institutional investors, between August 3 and August 5. The results suggest that improving economic expectations are increasingly being accompanied by a more positive assessment of current conditions.

The stronger sentiment comes as investors assess the outlook for growth, monetary policy and economic activity across the euro zone. The sustained rise in the Sentix index indicates that confidence has continued to build despite lingering economic uncertainties, Reuters said.
