Global Market: Airbus shares fall after quality flaw found in hundreds of A321neo jets

Shares of Airbus fell more than 1% on Friday after the European planemaker disclosed a quality issue affecting hundreds of its best-selling A321neo aircraft, raising questions over potential repairs and delivery timelines.

Airbus confirmed a report by The Air Current that the issue involves coatings applied to a structural component inside the forward fuselage of the A321neo. The company said the flaw did not pose an immediate safety risk.

The aircraft manufacturer has identified a repair for the issue, although it did not immediately clarify whether the quality problem would affect aircraft deliveries, according to Reuters.

Airbus shares were down about 1.3% in early trading, underperforming other blue-chip stocks on France's CAC 40 index.

The A321neo is one of Airbus' most commercially important aircraft, with strong demand from airlines seeking fuel-efficient single-aisle jets. Any disruption involving inspections, repairs or deliveries could therefore have implications for Airbus' production and delivery schedules.

The disclosure comes as Airbus continues to ramp up production to meet strong demand for its narrow-body aircraft. The company has been working to resolve supply-chain and manufacturing challenges while increasing output of the A320 family.
