Stock market update: Power stocks up as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Thursday's session.
Jaiprakash Power Ventures(up 11.27%), K.P.I. Global Infras(up 5.00%), RTNPOWER(up 4.96%), Energy Development Company(up 4.95%), DPSC(up 4.91%), Indowind Energy(up 4.91%), Orient Green Power Company(up 4.91%), Jyoti Structures(up 4.83%), Suzlon Energy(up 4.64%) and Reliance Power(up 3.25%) stood among the top gainers.
Karma Energy(down 4.94%), GE Power India Limited(down 2.02%), Hitachi Energy India(down 1.52%), Power Grid Corporation of India(down 1.29%), PTC India(down 0.86%), Voltamp Transformers(down 0.86%), NTPC(down 0.83%), Indo Tech Transformers(down 0.39%), Alstom T&D India(down 0.23%) and Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(down 0.14%) were among the top losers of the day.
The NSE Nifty50 index ended 179.35 points down at 17745.9, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 621.31 points at 59601.84.
UPL Ltd(up 2.39%), IndusInd Bank(up 1.96%), Bajaj Auto(up 1.78%), Bharti Airtel(up 1.49%), Eicher Motors(up 1.39%), Maruti Suzuki(up 1.37%), Bajaj Finance(up 1.01%), Hindalco Industries(up 0.79%), Titan Company Ltd(up 0.77%) and Coal India(up 0.62%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.
On the other hand, JSW Steel(down 2.96%), UltraTech Cement(down 2.62%), Tech Mahindra(down 2.62%), Shree Cement(down 2.52%), Reliance Industries(down 2.15%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 2.0%), HDFC(down 1.99%), HCL Technologies(down 1.97%), HDFC Bank(down 1.6%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 1.57%) closed in the red.
