Stock market update: Power stocks down as market rises

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed higher in the Tuesday's session.

Indowind Energy(up 4.95%), Orient Green Power Company(up 4.93%), Adani Transmissions(up 2.14%), Power Grid Corporation of India(up 1.85%), Tata Power Company(up 1.51%), Voltamp Transformers(up 1.25%), Inox wind(up 1.23%), Alstom T&D India(up 1.14%), CESC(up 0.94%) and GE Power India Limited(up 0.72%) stood among the top gainers.

PIGL(down 4.94%), Reliance Power(down 4.76%), Energy Development Company(down 3.29%), K.P.I. Global Infrastructure(down 2.01%), Karma Energy(down 1.79%), RTNPOWER(down 1.74%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(down 1.47%), Jyoti Structures(down 1.36%), JSW Energy(down 1.17%) and KEC International(down 1.15%) were among the top losers of the day.


The NSE Nifty50 index ended 197.9 points up at 17315.5, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 696.81 points at 57989.3.

Tech Mahindra(up 3.95%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(up 3.14%), Tata Motors(up 2.9%), Reliance Industries(up 2.58%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 2.25%), JSW Steel(up 2.23%), ITC(up 2.15%), Tata Consultancy(up 2.05%), Bajaj Finserv(up 1.94%) and Bajaj Auto(up 1.88%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever(down 2.81%), Nestle India(down 2.5%), Britannia Industries(down 2.44%), Cipla(down 1.69%), Divis Laboratories(down 0.17%), Tata Steel(down 0.07%), Shree Cement(down 0.07%) and NTPC(down 0.04%) closed in the red.
