Stock market update: Power stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.
PIGL(up 4.84%), Indowind Energy(up 3.25%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(up 1.24%), Inox Wind Energy(up 0.94%) and KEC International(up 0.63%) stood among the top gainers.
Jyoti Structures(down 4.70%), Suzlon Energy(down 3.26%), Torrent Power(down 3.01%), Adani Power(down 2.77%), Jaiprakash Power Ventures(down 2.61%), NLC India(down 2.56%), Suzlon Energy-Partly Pd up Right Is(down 2.55%), Adani Transmissions(down 2.48%), Reliance Power(down 2.36%) and Alstom T&D India(down 2.36%) were among the top losers of the day.
The NSE Nifty50 index ended 189.6 points down at 18042.95, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 636.75 points at 60657.45.
Divis Laboratories(up 1.25%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(up 0.5%), Maruti Suzuki(up 0.48%), Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 0.36%), UltraTech Cement(up 0.17%), Tata Consultancy(up 0.1%) and Eicher Motors(up 0.06%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.
On the other hand, JSW Steel(down 4.12%), Hindalco Industries(down 3.83%), Coal India(down 3.1%), Tata Steel(down 2.28%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(down 2.21%), Tata Motors(down 2.11%), Power Grid Corporation of India(down 2.11%), Wipro(down 1.85%), Infosys(down 1.82%) and HDFC Bank(down 1.79%) closed in the red.
