Stock market update: Power stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Tuesday's session.
Kalpataru Power Transmission(up 4.71%), Voltamp Transformers(up 0.40%), Energy Development Company(up 0.27%) and KEC International(up 0.07%) stood among the top gainers.
Suzlon Energy(down 7.19%), JSW Energy(down 5.33%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(down 5.29%), Reliance Power(down 4.79%), Jaiprakash Power Ventures(down 4.73%), RTNPOWER(down 4.17%), K.P.I. Global Infras(down 3.10%), Alstom T&D India(down 2.93%), Indowind Energy(down 2.89%) and Adani Power(down 2.33%) were among the top losers of the day.
The NSE Nifty50 index ended 257.45 points down at 16983.55, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 843.79 points at 57147.32.
Axis Bank(up 1.12%), Adani Enterprises(up 0.85%) and Asian Paints(up 0.63%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.
On the other hand, Divis Laboratories(down 5.0%), IndusInd Bank(down 3.78%), Nestle India(down 3.5%), Eicher Motors(down 3.5%), JSW Steel(down 3.49%), Hindalco Industries(down 2.81%), Tata Steel(down 2.76%), UPL Ltd(down 2.76%), Infosys(down 2.66%) and SBI Life(down 2.66%) closed in the red.
