Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index falls 0.28%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.
Shares of Granules India Ltd.(up 1.43 per cent), Lupin Ltd.(up 0.87 per cent), Alkem Laboratories Ltd.(up 0.69 per cent), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(up 0.59 per cent) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(up 0.47 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Zydus Lifesciences Ltd.(down 2.89 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd.(down 1.97 per cent), Ipca Laboratories Ltd.(down 1.54 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(down 1.51 per cent) and Gland Pharma Ltd.(down 0.94 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.28 per cent down at 15460.2.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 231.9 points at 19901.4, while the BSE Sensex stood down 796.0 points at 66800.84.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 39 closed in the red.
Shares of JP Power, IOB, YES Bank, Suzlon Energy and Vodafone Idea were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Jindal Photo, HSIL, Blue Star, IFCI and Moksh Ornaments Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while SS Infrastructure, Jiwanram Sheoduttrai, FutureLifestyleFash, Shri Techtex and Penta Gold hit their fresh 52-week lows.
