Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index advances 0.72%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a positive note on Friday.
Shares of Lupin(up 4.67 per cent), Alembic Pharmaceuticals(up 4.36 per cent), Biocon(up 3.92 per cent), Gland Pharma(up 2.97 per cent) and Torrent Pharmaceuticals(up 2.77 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Laurus(down 4.22 per cent), Alkem Laboratories(down 2.25 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(down 1.56 per cent) and Granules India(down 0.13 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.72 per cent up at 13879.35.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 185.6 points at 17671.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 677.77 points at 59306.93.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 19 ended in the green, while 31 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, PNB, Tata Power, YES Bank and IRCTC were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Esab India, Bharat Bijlee, Canara Bank , Pioneer Distil and Triveni Turbine hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Suvidhaa Infoserve Ltd., D K Enterprises Global Ltd., Felix Industries, Servotech Power Syst and Sansera Engineering Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
