Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index advances 0.62%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a positive note on Wednesday.
Shares of Abbott India Ltd.(up 6.43 per cent), Biocon Ltd.(up 5.18 per cent), Natco Pharma Ltd.(up 3.9 per cent), Lupin Ltd.(up 3.51 per cent) and Laurus Labs Ltd.(up 3.13 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Mankind Pharma Ltd.(down 2.83 per cent), J B Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(down 1.63 per cent), Cipla Ltd.(down 0.85 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(down 0.71 per cent) and Ajanta Pharma Ltd.(down 0.43 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.62 per cent up at 21868.5.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 42.96 points at 23696.3, while the BSE Sensex stood down 312.53 points at 78271.28.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 23 ended in the green, while 27 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Kalyan Jewellers Ind, Suzlon Energy and Zomato were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Kanpur Plastip, Niraj Ispat Ind., Oil Country Tub, Supreme Holdings and Aeroflex Industries hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Nilkamal Ltd, Karda Const, AGS Transact Tech, Tube Investments and Sundaram Multi hit their fresh 52-week lows.
