Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index advances 0.5%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a positive note on Wednesday.
Shares of Natco Pharma Ltd.(up 5.95 per cent), Biocon Ltd.(up 3.89 per cent), J B Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(up 2.99 per cent), Ajanta Pharma Ltd.(up 2.74 per cent) and Laurus Labs Ltd.(up 1.51 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Alkem Laboratories Ltd.(down 1.49 per cent), Granules India Ltd.(down 1.16 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd.(down 0.85 per cent), Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(down 0.48 per cent) and Zydus Lifesciences Ltd.(down 0.31 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.5 per cent up at 22057.15.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 37.16 points at 25141.4, while the BSE Sensex stood up 123.42 points at 82515.14.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 28 ended in the green, while 22 closed in the red.
Shares of RattanIndia Power, Vodafone Idea, Reliance Power, JP Power and RattanIndia Infra were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Wockhardt, Prabha Energy, Capital India Fin, Camlin Fine Sc and Sundaram Finance hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Shree Ram Proteins, BSL Ltd, Picturepost Studios, Excel Realty N Infra and Viceroy Hotels hit their fresh 52-week lows.
