Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index advances 0.49%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a positive note on Thursday.
Shares of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals(up 5.74 per cent), Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 1.52 per cent), Glaxosmithkline Pharmaceuticals(up 1.05 per cent), Granules India(up 1.02 per cent) and Biocon(up 0.93 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Laurus(down 2.65 per cent), Lupin(down 1.97 per cent), Gland Pharma(down 0.83 per cent), Abbott India(down 0.73 per cent) and Zydus Lifesciences(down 0.4 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.49 per cent up at 12519.35.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 101.45 points at 17915.05, while the BSE Sensex stood up 348.8 points at 60649.38.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 40 ended in the green, while 10 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd., Rail Vikas Nigam, Zomato Ltd. and Alok Industries were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Barak Valley, GE T&D India, Kirloskar Elec, RKEC Projects and Eimco Elecon hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while BEML Land Assets, Parin Furniture, Brightcom Group, Kirloskar Pneumatic and Jakharia Fabric hit their fresh 52-week lows.
