Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index advances 0.22%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a positive note on Thursday.
Shares of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 1.34 per cent), Lupin(up 1.16 per cent), Laurus(up 1.04 per cent), Natco Pharma(up 0.98 per cent) and Gland Pharma(up 0.8 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Biocon(down 1.89 per cent), Strides Pharma Science(down 1.82 per cent), Zydus Lifesciences(down 1.39 per cent), Abbott India(down 1.18 per cent) and Alembic Pharmaceuticals(down 1.16 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.22 per cent up at 12867.15.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 109.25 points at 17014.35, while the BSE Sensex stood down 390.58 points at 57235.33.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.
Shares of Suzlon Energy, Vodafone Idea, Zomato Ltd., JP Power and Wipro were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Hindcon Chemicals, Pennar Ind, Rites, Zenith Exports and Liberty Shoes hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while JBF Industries, Wipro, Technocraft Ind, Annapurna Swadisht Ltd. and Vaxtex Cotfab hit their fresh 52-week lows.
