Stock market update: Nifty IT index falls 0.76%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a negative note on Monday.
Shares of HCL Technologies Ltd.(up 0.48 per cent), Tech Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.42 per cent), Wipro Ltd.(up 0.34 per cent) and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(up 0.19 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Persistent Systems Ltd.(down 4.17 per cent), MphasiS Ltd.(down 2.85 per cent), LTIMindtree Ltd.(down 2.67 per cent), L&T Technology Services Ltd.(down 1.62 per cent) and Coforge Ltd.(down 1.43 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty IT index closed 0.76 per cent down at 42596.55.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 178.36 points at 23381.6, while the BSE Sensex stood down 548.39 points at 77311.8.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 40 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Zomato, Redington and Swiggy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Nxt-Infra Trust, Norben Tea Exp, Reliance Naval & Engg, Hotel Rugby and Redington hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while NGL Fine Chem, Carraro India L, Rossell Techsys, Anuh Pharma and HMA Agro Industries hit their fresh 52-week lows.
