Stock market update: Nifty IT index falls 0.48%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a negative note on Tuesday.

Shares of Persistent Systems Ltd.(up 4.21 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, MphasiS Ltd.(down 2.07 per cent), Wipro Ltd.(down 1.69 per cent), Tech Mahindra Ltd.(down 1.37 per cent), HCL Technologies Ltd.(down 1.32 per cent) and Coforge Ltd.(down 1.31 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.


The Nifty IT index closed 0.48 per cent down at 36521.35.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 333.0 points at 21238.8, while the BSE Sensex stood down 1053.1 points at 70370.55.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 40 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, Indian Railway Fin, Zee Ent. and NHPC were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Swelect Energy, Visaka Ind, Salasar Techno Engg, HLV Ltd. and Borosil Renewables hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Zee Ent., Stampede Cap(DVR), Credo Brands Marketi, Tatva Chintan Pharm and VIP Ind. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
