Stock market update: Nifty IT index falls 0.38%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.
Shares of MPhasis(up 1.33 per cent), Mindtree(up 0.79 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Infotech(up 0.35 per cent), L&T Technology(up 0.19 per cent) and Wipro(up 0.06 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Tech Mahindra(down 1.07 per cent), HCL Technologies(down 1.05 per cent), Coforge(down 0.87 per cent), Infosys(down 0.73 per cent) and Tata Consultancy(down 0.12 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty IT index closed 0.38 per cent down at 33720.0.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 187.95 points at 16605.95, while the BSE Sensex stood down 778.38 points at 55468.9.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Coal India Ltd, PNB and SAIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Kalyani Commercials, Madhya Bharat Agro, InfoBeans Tech, GNFC and Mangalam Global Ent hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Dr. Reddys, Richa Info Systems Ltd., SoftTech Engineers, Felix Industries and Hind Nat Glass hit their fresh 52-week lows.
