Stock market update: Nifty IT index falls 0.22%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a negative note on Friday.
Shares of Infosys Ltd.(up 1.99 per cent), MphasiS Ltd.(up 1.43 per cent), L&T Technology Services Ltd.(up 0.63 per cent) and LTIMindtree Ltd.(up 0.11 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Persistent Systems Ltd.(down 6.39 per cent), Tech Mahindra Ltd.(down 3.12 per cent), Wipro Ltd.(down 2.8 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(down 0.31 per cent) and Coforge Ltd.(down 0.24 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty IT index closed 0.22 per cent down at 39923.3.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 269.95 points at 24530.9, while the BSE Sensex stood down 738.81 points at 80604.65.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 5 ended in the green, while 44 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Tata Teleservices, YES Bank, IRFC and Indian Renewable were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of VST Industries, Krebs Biochem, MTNL, Almondz Global and Tata Teleservices hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Nakoda Group Of Ind(PP), Filatex Fashions, Sah Polymers, Akme Fintrade(India and IRIS Clothings hit their fresh 52-week lows.
