Stock market update: Nifty IT index advances 2.2%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a positive note on Tuesday.
Shares of Larsen & Toubro Infotech(up 16.07 per cent), L&T Technology(up 5.77 per cent), MPhasis(up 5.65 per cent), Coforge(up 4.58 per cent) and Tech Mahindra(up 4.02 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Tata Consultancy(down 0.36 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty IT index closed 2.2 per cent up at 37106.35.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 58.3 points at 18418.75, while the BSE Sensex stood down 49.54 points at 61716.05.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Tata Power, PNB, YES Bank and Bank of Baroda were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Paras Defence and Space Technologies Ltd., Speciality Rest, L&T Infotech, Manaksia Coated and TTK Prestige hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while HEC Infra Projects, Nandani Creation, Airo Lam, Servotech Power Syst and Dynamic Services & Security Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
