Stock market update: Nifty IT index advances 0.42%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a positive note on Monday.
Shares of Tech Mahindra(up 1.52 per cent), Tata Consultancy(up 1.12 per cent), LTIMindtree Ltd(up 0.79 per cent), L&T Technology(up 0.71 per cent) and MPhasis(up 0.7 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, HCL Technologies(down 0.93 per cent), Coforge(down 0.68 per cent), Persistent Systems(down 0.32 per cent) and Wipro(down 0.3 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty IT index closed 0.42 per cent up at 28708.3.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 70.55 points at 18755.45, while the BSE Sensex stood down 216.28 points at 63168.3.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 14 ended in the green, while 36 closed in the red.
Shares of Alok Industries, Suzlon Energy, Reliance Power, YES Bank and IDFC First Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Skipper Ltd, Crest Ventures, Rollatainers Ltd, HPL Electric Power and De Neers Tools hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Quality Foils(India, Supreme Engineering, Viaz Tyres, Sahana System and Rachana Infrastructu hit their fresh 52-week lows.
