Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 2.0%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.
Shares of Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(up 2.78 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.(down 3.97 per cent), Eicher Motors Ltd.(down 3.48 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 3.25 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 3.03 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 2.71 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 2.0 per cent down at 20372.35.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 247.2 points at 21951.15, while the BSE Sensex stood down 790.34 points at 72304.88.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 4 ended in the green, while 46 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, NHPC, Indus Towers and PNB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Vaswani Ind, Jindal Worldwide, Poddar Pigments, Rainbow Childrens and Dhruv Consultancy hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Entero Healthcare So, Saurashtra Cem, Vibhor Steel Tubes, Capital Small Financ and Credo Brands Marketi hit their fresh 52-week lows.
