Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 1.3%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.
Shares of Eicher Motors Ltd.(up 1.47 per cent) and Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(up 0.43 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 3.13 per cent), Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 2.61 per cent), TVS Motor Company Ltd.(down 2.21 per cent), Bharat Forge Ltd.(down 2.1 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 2.09 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 1.3 per cent down at 15782.6.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 92.65 points at 19436.1, while the BSE Sensex stood down 286.06 points at 65226.04.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 39 closed in the red.
Shares of Suzlon Energy, IOB, JP Power, Vodafone Idea and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of SoftTech Engineers, Apollo Micro Systems, MPS Ltd, SaskenTech and Dynamatic Tech hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Manoj Vaibhav Gems N, Nuvama Wealth Manage, Sai Silks(Kalamandi, Shree Ram Proteins and Yatra Online hit their fresh 52-week lows.
